ORGANIZATIONAL IDENTIFICATION AND EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY OF PRINTING PRESS IN PORT HARCOURT
Abstract
This work examined organizational identification and employee productivity of Printing Press in Port Harcourt. The objective of the study was to examine the relationship between dimensions of organizational identification such as affectionate, citizenship behavior and people interaction; and measures of employee productivity in terms of work quality, output level and timeliness. Thus, this study was anchored on expectancy theory as its theoretical foundation. The study adopted the explanatory cross sectional survey research design, the population of this study was four hundred and eighty (480) employees, with sample size of two hundred and fourteen (214) respondents from fifty (50) printing press operating within Port Harcourt metropolis, the sample size was obtained using the Krejcie and Morgan Sample Size Determination of 1970. After validation by the supervisor, two hundred and fourteen (214) copies of structured questionnaire were administered while one hundred and seventy nine (179) copies were retrieved. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using test-retest. Mean and standard deviation were used for research questions analysis while Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to test hypotheses. The results showed that dimensions of organizational identification such as affectionate, citizenship behavior and people interaction have a significant positive relationship with measures of employee productivity in terms of work quality, output level and timeliness. The study concluded that Printing press Port "Harcourt, Rivers State and Nigeria at large who fail to identify employees who are willing to achieve organizational goals at all cost, will find it really challenging to achieve high output level, work quality and timely execution of task. Consequently, the study recommended among other things that management of printing press in Port Harcourt should create a platform such as workplace social programmes to boast employee feelings in identifying, pursuing and achieving organizational goals.
